Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s groundbreaking 1928 novel Orlando: A Biography, Orlandos is a 2021 XConfessions short film directed by Julia Ritschel, starring Kay Garnellen and Sulema Vasquez (Drykettle). Set within the constraints of a conservative early-1900s society, the film follows a woman who quietly steps beyond the life prescribed to her and toward a love that feels both risky and deeply affirming. Drawn to a trans man who opens new ways of experiencing connection, she begins to discover desire as something tender, expansive, and self-defining. This indie adult short is a tribute to all the "Orlandos" who dare to love outside imposed boundaries.
